New Residents in my Garage!

Hi Everyone!

As I said in my last post, we have tons of cats needing homes. So many in fact that we've had to shuffle cats and kittens around foster homes to make room for others. So the kittens and mama cat that have been living in my garage for the last weeks have finally been moved to their permanent foster home (Thanks Melissa)! New residents have made my garage their home, I'd like to introduce Roscoe and Sasha.

As I write this I am sitting on one of their cat beds in the garage. Roscoe has been inching towards me every time I look down to type something. He is shy, but I can tell he is dying for affection. He is sitting so proudly watching me type, his tail wrapped around his large body. He is so handsome, I can't wait for someone to meet him and fall in love with his charm and looks!

Sasha on the other hand, has clung to me since she got here. She is ultra affectionate.  At the moment she is climbing all over me and my laptop (it almost seems she's trying to see what I'm saying about her on here! haha). She is constantly purring and always looking for affection. I have no doubt someone will meet her and instantly fall in love!

My only concern for these two cats is with so many kittens in the rescue, the full grown cats are overshadowed =( . Although these cats are both under a year old, a tiny kitten that can fit in the palm of your hand often wins over an adopters heart. And although I am very happy when a kitten gets adopted, I will be thrilled when someone opens up their heart and home to these two full grown cats. So please spread the word about these two wonderful feline companions, because they deserve a home! They are both sterilized, have received their vaccinations and have had a flea treatment.  What more can you ask for in a cat? :)

It's raining cats!

Hi Everyone!

Firstly, I'd like to apologize for my lengthy absence. I do often have ideas for blogging throughout my daily routines, however, when it comes down to sitting down and typing it all up.... that is where the idea ends.

The rescue on the other hand, is blossoming!.... into a cat rescue that is. When Samantha and I first decided to start our own rescue we had agreed we would stick to dogs. Somewhere down the road something must have changed because at the moment we have exactly sixteen cats looking for a home and... 4 dogs. Why so many cats you may ask? I think this explains it perfectly:

I can't stress this enough: Please Spay and Neuter your pets!!! If you're going to have an outdoor cat, there is no way of explaining an intact animal. By doing so, you are producing hundreds of kittens destined to a life outdoors (that is if they even make it past a few months of age). Cats frozen to death, turned into roadkill, catching preventable viruses or gassed to death is exactly what you are contributing to the world if you don't spay and neuter your pets.

An indoor cat SHOULD also be sterilized. How many indoor cats escape every year? Even if it is just for an afternoon, or one night. An unsterilized indoor cat CAN and WILL mate if given the opportunity. So PLEASE for the love of animals, sterilize your cats!

Unfortunately, these are only a few of the cats/kittens we have in our rescue at the moment. Please share these pictures and information as much as possible so we can get these cats great homes!

More Happy "Tails"!

Hi All!

This past week has been a great week for our dogs! Both Zara and Toutie found their "fur"-ever homes! Zara (who was abused physically and emotionally and was left outside on an apartment balcony all year round) went to a great young couple today who will be able to give her all the exercise she needs! Zara was never taught basic commands and as she physically grew into a full size (55 lb.) dog, mentally she remained a puppy. Her new family will work with her, teaching her everything she needs to know so she can progress into adulthood. Thank you Marie-Claude for seeing past Zara's puppy ways and appreciating the beautiful soul within.

Toutie was adopted by his foster family. He will be surrounded by love and attention from the three young girls and older doggy brother he will be living with. We are so glad Toutie (who was discarded because of a new baby), has found a home with so much love. Thank you Nadia for being so kind and loving!

These two adoptions really lifted my spirits this week! I am so happy for these two!

On a "not so bright" note, Basil, one of the dogs we adopted out in May has had some complications with his neutering. Unfortunately post operation, Basil continued to bleed excessively. The vet suspects he might have hemophilia. I just want to ask all of you to send positive thoughts out to Basil and his new family. Stay strong Basil, we know you can make it through this,we love you!

We are still desperately seeking foster homes. As moving day approaches and people leave animals behind, pounds are giving each animal only a limited amount of time to make room for the next bunch to come in. If you or anyone you know has ever considered fostering, now is the time. These animals need us. Please pass the word on. We need everyone's help as July is soon approaching. In addition, if you haven't noticed, we have a donation button now! If you scroll down it is on the right of the page. For those of you who would like to help out but cannot foster or adopt, we always need donations which go directly to our vet bills and paying release fees when we rescue dogs from the pound.

Why I do what I do...

Hi Everyone,

I'm feeling a little discouraged this week. There are more and more dogs needing homes and it seems like the number of people willing to save them is dwindling. We haven't been able to take dogs in lately because of our lack of foster homes. This really frustrates me because I know there are people out there who will eventually want to adopt these dogs. Unfortunately we need people who are willing to open up their homes to these animals "in the moment". Before we started our rescue, I used to foster dogs for other rescues. Often we would only find out we had to take a dog the night before or the morning of. Having been in that situation I understand how stressful and unsure this can feel. But having felt those feelings myself and overcome them, I know that fostering an animal is well worth the temporary anxiety. Watching your foster animal go from an insecure, undernourished, lost soul blossom into a playful, trusting, loving pet is one of the most rewarding experiences I have felt. So although this week I may feel a little down, I keep working towards saving these animals because I know that one dog may not make a difference in the world, but you can make a world of difference to one dog.

Here are some pictures of the dogs I have fostered in the past who have all found loving homes. (Sherlock, Chevy, Belle, Jessy... the list goes on)

Last but not least the foster dog who turned me into a "failed foster" as we call it in the rescue world. Winston, my baby. There was something about him I just couldn't shake. After countless meetings with potential families that fell through or weren't (in my eyes) good enough for this sweet soul, I cracked. This is his "fur" ever home now. We love him SO much. I can't imagine my life without him.

Everything I do with animal rescue is for the animals that have filled my life with so much joy.

This is for you, Holly & Maggie (RIP); I will always love you two, you were there from before I was born and you were always looking out for me and I know you still are. This if for you Autumn, Chloe and Winston; you three really know how to keep me going, I thank god everyday that he put you in my life. This is for you Bailey & all past and future foster dogs; you fill my heart with joy and hope. I love you all so much.

Can all of you give a little hug to your furbabies tonight for me?

Puppy Love

Hi Everyone,

Firstly I'd like to start off this post by saying a huge thank you to two people without whom our rescue would not be what it is. My mom, Laura, and Sam's mom, Sandra. I know you guys read this blog, so I just want to say how much I appreciate all your help and support. You two are the BEST! :)

Secondly I'd like to introduce the newest member of our adoptable pets. Bailey, a seven week old puppy, was dumped with the rest of his litter and their mom. Three out of the six puppies have been saved. But we need foster homes to be able to rescue the rest. PLEASE tell everyone you know. A cage is no place for a puppy to grow up, and it is definitely not the LAST place you want to be, since the mom has a high risk of being euthanised once the babies are saved.

Anyways, here is Bailey, a lovely seven week old golden (husky?) mix. He is as sweet as can be and wants nothing more then to be near you!

Succesful Yard Sale!

Last Saturday May 28th we had a fundraiser yard sale. As we had planned this event over two weeks in advance, we had no idea how moody the weather would be. The morning started off nice, but not an hour into set-up did the weather gods decide it was time to play some tricks! We were gifted by on and off rain for the rest of the day. HOWEVER our lovely customers were troopers! They came out to support us anyway! And although by the end of the day we ( and all our leftover stuff) were sopping, we came through with HUGE SUCCESS. We made over 400$. :) :) THANK YOU to everyone who donated their "junk" (ie. treasures) and to everyone who came out regardless of the weather to support us!

THIS SATURDAY JUNE 4TH, we will be having another garage sale, to sell the last of the donations. It will be held at 244 Maple in Greenfield Park. Feel Free to stop by and show your support. We may even bring some special guests ;)

"Got Junk? We want it!"

Hi Everyone!

It's been a while since we last posted, but that's because we've been busy with something really exciting! We're having a fundraiser this Saturday, May 28th at 755 Campbell Greenfield Park. We are collecting everyone "JUNK" (we like to call them unwanted treasures!), so we can have a yard sale to raise funds for our furry friends in need! So far we've received some amazing stuff! We're also going to spread the world about animal welfare to those who attend the sale! We hope by educating these individuals, there will be a greater circle of people working towards the same goal, saving animals.

P.S Both Toby and Basil have been adopted this week, and Princessa has a pending adoption as well!
